Lovely elves by Pentik |
I was born in this beautiful land of thousand lakes a few decades ago. I'm happy to be Finnish, really I am. There is of course many little things we could do better but then again, so do other nations as well, don't they? Nobody is perfect.
We Finnish people might (just might) be a little serious, but we are definitely honest and straight. We are used to say out loud what we think. For example if we travel abroad and a stranger asks "How are you?", we might answer "Fine thanks, how are you?" but if things are not going well at that moment, we might as well honestly answer "Well, actually, I'm feeling a little blue right now". You asked me, thinks the Finn then and doesn't immediately understand why it feels so funny.
In business Finns are liked because we do what we have promised, we tend to take care of our staff and we have moral standards. Or at least we would like to think this is the way others think about us. We have had Nokia (well not anymore or at least it has changed dramatically), we have formula drivers and famous opera singers and we have Rovio and Supercell. But above all, we have Santa Claus or Joulupukki as we say in finnish. Others like Swedes or Russians try to claim that Santa comes originally from Sweden or from Russia but that's nonsense, it really is. Santa lives in Korvatunturi, in Lapland as he always has. Santa and his elves do bring gifts to other children as well and they speak other languages fluently, luckyly so that others can enjoy Santa as well.
There is still two weeks left to be nice enough. Have a nice week
